Gordon is the policy lead within the UK government for robotics and autonomous systems. His role is within the new Department for Science, Innovation & Technology, but he works across government to make the case for robotics in multiple sectors, including the commercial use of drones. He has for some years coordinated the Drone Industry Action Group and the Robotics Growth Partnership, and was a co-author of the 2022 publication Advancing Airborne Autonomy.
